The 95-year-old was taken to Emory University Hospital on Monday, November 11, ahead of the operation on Tuesday, which comes just weeks after he was rushed to hospital after fracturing his pelvis in a fall at home.

"Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was admitted to Emory University Hospital this evening for a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain, caused by bleeding due to his recent falls," a statement from the Carter Center on Monday read. "The procedure is scheduled for tomorrow morning."

"President Carter is resting comfortably, and his wife, Rosalynn, is with him."
