Mystery post aside, the One Direction member additionally opens up to the Hits Radio show how his grandfather reacted to his newly-released song, 'Lights Up'.

AceShowbiz - Harry Styles has admitted he was "half asleep" when he posted the cryptic tweet that sent Twitter into meltdown earlier this month (October 2019).

The "Sign of the Times" singer broke a six-week silence on the social networking site to post the word "Do" on October 5 - just days before he released the lead track from his upcoming album, "Lights Up".

While fans thought the mystery tweet was part of an elaborate promotional campaign, alongside promotional flyers and billboard adverts featuring the words "Do You Know Who You Are?", which popped up across the globe, the star told Britain's "Hits Radio" show he actually "doesn't remember" sending the post.

"Can I be really honest? I was half asleep and I don't remember sending it," he said when asked about the commotion. "I was half asleep, I woke up, was like 'Oh I'm going to do a thing for the song coming out'. And then I went back to sleep and when I woke up my manager was like, 'What are you doing?!' I was like, 'I don't know. I'm sorry.'"

However, the former One Direction star is thrilled by fans' response to the new tune - though not as much as his grandfather, who's just pleased he's managed to hold down a job.

"I'm happy to be back. I was ready to put some music out. I'm excited to be working again," he gushed. "Actually when I put the song out, I got a text from my mum who'd played it to my grandfather, who said, 'Yeah, he likes it. He's just happy you're still working!'."

Harry is expected to perform "Lights Up" for the first time when he hosts "Saturday Night Live" on November 16, with the star confessing he's "nervous but excited" about the gig.
