Words are Disney is willing to pay in the range of $4 to $5 billion for the rights to Spider-Man as the studio plans to set the web-slinger as the new leader of The Avengers.

AceShowbiz - After settling a dispute with Sony for the next Spider-Man movie, Disney is apparently looking for a longterm solution to the issue. New report has emerged that the Mouse House is trying to buy out the rights to the web-crawling superhero.

According to Mikey Sutton who runs the private Facebook Group Geekosity (via Showbiz CheatSheet), Disney is willing to pay in the range of $4 to $5 billion for Spider-Man. The studio noted that rumors of Disney's plans to acquire Spider-Man had been circulating before the temporary fallout between the two studios, but it was "mere speculation."

Sutton allegedly wrote in the now-deleted post, "While rumors have circulated before the Sony-Disney dispute of such a purchase, it was mere speculation, especially the erroneous high number that was quoted. What I'm hearing is that Disney is looking to offer in the range of $4 to $5 billion for Spider-Man." It adds, "He's Marvel's most well-known hero, and with Iron Man and Captain America gone, they need an anchor in the MCU."

Should the latest report be true, the $5 billion Disney is allegedly offering to Sony is only a third of the massive $15 billion that Sony would ask for. However, as Sutton heard from the Disney side, $5 billion is already more than Disney paid for Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the rest superheroes it already has in the MCU.

Reporting the potential buyout, 3 Buck Theater suggests that Disney is planning to make Spider-Man a.k.a. Peter Parker the new leader of the Avengers in future film, "while leaving Captain Marvel to lead A-Force."

Neither Disney nor Sony has commented on the potential buyout rumor. As of now, the two parties have reached a deal for the next Spider-Man movie. The deal will also allow Tom Holland's character to appear in the next installment of "The Avengers".
