Paying tribute to Petara Cordero through an Instagram post, the Cleveland Browns player says, 'God has a plan for all of us we can't understand but she is in a better place now and she can rest easy.'

AceShowbiz - Losing your loved one is surely hard, but it's not a reason to prevent you from continuing your life and moving on. And that is what Chris Smith is doing as he goes back to work just one week after his girlfriend Petara Cordero was killed in a tragic car accident. Prior to his game, he took to his Instagram account to pay tribute to his late baby mama.

Attached on his social media tribute were several photos and videos of Petara. In one photo, the couple put on big smiles on their faces while posing for the camera during a dinner date, while another photo showed Chris wrapping his arm around Petara, who looked gorgeous in a plunging pink dress. The image was taken during her pregnancy as her baby bump was full on display.

In the caption of the post, he wrote, "God has a plan for all of us we can't understand but she is in a better place now and she can rest easy. My wifey my best friend and the mother of my beautiful baby. Love you baby."

Later on Monday night, September 16, Chris played in the Cleveland Browns' Week 2 primetime game against the New York Jets. People might be surprised by his decision to return to work so soon after the death of Petara, but he insisted in a statement that he believed that it was something that his late lady would want him to do. "I am going to play tonight because it is something she would want me to do," he said. "She would want me to keep doing what I love and stay strong. I play for her tonight. She is my why."

Petara died on September 11, just weeks after she gave birth to her first child with Smith. The 26-year-old was struck by a 2017 Mazda on Interstate 90 in Ohio. Police and paramedics arrived shortly after that, and she was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. The woman in the second car was also taken to the hospital and admitted to have been drinking prior to the crash. A toxicology report is pending.
