AceShowbiz - Chris Smith is mourning the loss of his loved one. His girlfriend, Petara Cordero, passed away on Wednesday, September 11 following a tragic car accident that took place on Interstate 90 in Ohio. His team Cleveland Browns confirmed the sad news in a statement.
Multiple reports detailed that Smith and Cordero were driving in his Lamborghini around 2 A.M. when the vehicle had a tire malfunction and caused the car to swerve and hit a median. The couple was able to get out of the car without significant injuries, but shortly after that, a woman in a 2017 Mazda hit the passenger's side of Smith's car and Cordero, who was standing on the shoulder.
Police and paramedics arrived shortly after, and Cordero was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The woman in the second car was also taken to the hospital and admitted she had been drinking prior to the crash. Police are currently awaiting a toxicology report to see if her blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08.
The incident is under investigation, and no charges have been filed as of this time.
Sending their condolences through a statement, Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said, "Words cannot describe the sorrow we feel for Chris following the loss of his girlfriend, Petara. Our entire organization mourns with Chris, his family and the Cordero family. We will do everything possible to offer them our support, comfort and any resources in this most difficult time."
Weeks prior to her death, Cordero gave birth to her daughter, Haven Harris Smith, with Smith. She shared on Instagram several photos of the little bundle of joy and wrote in the caption, "This little girl has filled my heart with so much joy and love !! I'm so thankful that God chose me to be her mommy!! So excited for this life journey with you!!"
Meanwhile, Smith posted a photo of Cordero holding their baby in the hospital. "I'm so thankful to have another beautiful gift in this world my daughter Haven Harris Smith. You are such a blessing to me and your mother!! Love you Petara and Baby Haven."
