During a sit-down with talk show host Jerry O'Connell, the 'American Idol' alum explains why he is really happy that the 'You Need to Calm Down' singer stands up to the music mogul.

AceShowbiz - Actor and singer Todrick Hall has applauded pal Taylor Swift for standing up to music mogul Scooter Braun, insisting Justin Bieber's manager is not as nice as he seems.

Hall, who has become one of Taylor's closest friends, started his career with Braun and admits he's "not a fan", so when he snapped up Swift's former record label - and with it the masters to her first six albums - he understood more than most why she was upset.

Taylor made her feelings known in a rant online, calling "bully" Braun's label takeover her "worst-case scenario", and Hall is now thrilled she has decided to have the last laugh and re-record all her hits from her first six albums.

"I just don't think he's a great guy all round...," gay rights activist Todrick tells chat show host Jerry O'Connell. "I think that he's a very powerful person and I think that what he's done in the music industry is amazing, but I personally feel that (buying up Swift's masters) was not the best move. I felt it was a little greedy."

But Hall believes Braun can redeem himself if he takes note of Taylor's message of equality for all and starts backing gay artists.

"In this current political time, we need people who have those huge platforms to be giving people who have not had the opportunity to be on the radio and sing about loving other guys," he adds. "While I love pop music, I think that we need something to... inspire people and to encourage young artists that are queer and people of colour to come out and be on the radio..."

"I think he (Braun) has the power to do that and I have not seen him do it yet... and that's why I'm really happy that Taylor is standing up to him."
