Kicked off with Kanye West's Sunday Service, the star-studded Gem City Shine block party is held to send messages of hope and resilience to those still reeling from the mass shooting.

AceShowbiz - Chance The Rapper, Stevie Wonder and Jon Stewart joined comedian Dave Chappelle for his Gem City Shine block party in Dayton, Ohio on Sunday, August 25 as the city bounces back from a shooting massacre.

More than 20,000 people spilled onto the streets around the RiverScape Metropark for the free festival, which kicked off with Kanye West's Sunday Service.

Chance and Stevie Wonder performed music as Ohio native Dave and his guests offered up messages of hope and resilience to those still reeling from the mass shooting, which rocked the city earlier this month.

At one point, Dave took to the stage and said, "Don't forget what this place is about. Mankind learned how to fly in this city!"

The event, held on Dave's birthday weekend, was held in the Oregon District nightlife area, where nine people lost their lives on August 4 after a gunman opened fire.

The comedian was also honoured for staging the event - Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley took the stage and declared it Dave Chappelle Day.
