AceShowbiz - Cardi B was the first big winner at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, August 26 as she collected the night's Best Hip Hop Award.

The rapper claimed the 'Moonman' trophy for her "Money" video, wearing a tight-fitting, low-cut red gown and matching choker and after thanking her directors and "glam team", she ended her acceptance speech by yelling, "Thank you Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!".

Spanish star Rosalia and J Balvin were also early winners, landing the Best Latin trophy for "Con Altura".

Balvin took a moment to highlight the fires burning up the Amazon rainforest in Brazil during his acceptance speech, telling the VMAs crowd, "We need to help, because it's burning on fire (sic)."

Billie Eilish also started off the night in style by picking up the Push Artist of the Year award, while The Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha collected the Best Dance gong for their collaboration "Call You Mine", and Ariana Grande's "Boyfriend" hit with Social House was named Song of the Summer.

Before the prizegiving got underway, pre-show performer Megan Thee Stallion picked up her first-ever prize, Best Power Anthem for "Hot Girl Summer".

The VMAs, hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco in New Jersey, will also honour Missy Elliott with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and designer Marc Jacobs will be feted with the inaugural Fashion Trailblazer Award.
