The Foo Fighters frontman took to the stage at the MOTH Club on Friday, August 16 to perform some of the band's biggest hits, and kicked off the gig with their 1995 track "Big Me".
Grohl then enlisted the help of Astley, who was on drums for Foo songs "Times Like These", "Everlong" and "Best of You".
The pair also performed the pop star's biggest hit "Never Gonna Give You Up", as Astley came behind the drum kit to join the rocker on vocals as the crowd went wild.
"I know you're not gonna see this anywhere else," Grohl told the audience. "This is not what I expected at all. I was expecting 20 f**king people that wanted to hear 'Pulp' songs or whatever."
The "Monkey Wrench" hitmaker recently admitted there were startling similarities between "Never Gonna Give You Up" and his old band, Nirvana's huge hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
"Nothing changed my life like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'," he told The Guardian. "The day Foo Fighters learned how to play 'Never Gonna Give You Up' by Rick Astley I realised that the arrangement is exactly the same! Kurt had a beautiful grasp of songwriting in its simplicity and depth."
