An Abbey Road Studios spokesman notes that there is a family atmosphere among the people gathering, while a studio staff inform devotees about an alternative if the queues are too long.

AceShowbiz - Thousands of The Beatles fans have travelled to "Abbey Road" in London to mark the 50th anniversary of the band shooting their iconic album cover.

The "Abbey Road" album artwork was shot by Iain Macmillan on August 8, 1969, and features the Fab Four strolling over a zebra crossing outside Abbey Road Studios. And on Thursday, August 8, fans queued for hours at the crossing to recreate the moment.

An Abbey Road Studios spokesman told London's Evening Standard newspaper: "I would guess there are about 1000 people out there already. There is a family atmosphere and everyone is having a nice time."

Staff at the studio later tweeted: "If you're planning on coming to the zebra crossing today and the queues are too long, step inside the Abbey Road car park for one day only and take your photo with the original Beatles' 1969 image!"

The sessions for the record were the group's last ones as a full band before splitting in 1970. Abbey Road has been remastered and will be reissued, along with 23 bonus recordings and demos, to mark its 50th anniversary on September 27.
