The 'Finesse' hitmaker follows the footsteps of Leonardo DiCaprio who offered support to activists trying to halt the Thirty Meter Telescope project in Hawaii from afar.

AceShowbiz - Bruno Mars has joined the stars offering support to activists trying to halt the construction of a telescope look-out on sacred Mauna Kea in his native Hawaii.

Hundreds of protesters have been camped out at the base of the dormant volcano on Hawaii's Big Island for weeks, after local officials closed off a road leading to the summit for construction workers to start work on the Thirty Meter Telescope project.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Damian Marley, and Jason Momoa have actually joined activists at the location, while Leonardo DiCaprio has been among those offering support from afar - and now Bruno has added his name to the list.

The local hero took to Instagram on Thursday (August 01) and shared a photo from the protest, adding: "I love you Hawaii, and I'm with you."

The protest and the construction plans have been halted by Mother Nature - Hawaii Governor David Ige withdrew an emergency proclamation for Mauna Kea as Hurricanes Erick and Flossie approach the island. According to CNN, Ige has said there are "no immediate plans to move heavy equipment up the mountain".
