In a statement regarding the issue, the rock band explains that their bass player is unable to travel to Japan due to 'a serious personal situation', and is grateful Eden Gallup helps out by replacing him.

AceShowbiz - Bass player Simon Gallup's son stepped in to replace his dad for The Cure's Japanese festival gig on Sunday, July 28, when a "serious personal situation" prevented him from travelling with the band.

Rather than cancel their Fuji Rock Festival set, Robert Smith and his bandmates asked Simon's son Eden Gallup to fill in.

"A serious personal situation affecting our bassist Simon arose after the Paleo Festival show on Thursday, and as a consequence Simon was unable to travel with us to Japan," a band statement obtained by NME.com read. "Very reluctant to disappoint our wonderful Japanese fans, and after much discussion, we decided to go ahead with out Fuji Festival headline on Sunday.

"We're very grateful to Ed for reaching out across the generational divide to help us out, and join him in welcoming his dad back for our seven remaining summer festival shows."

The Cure cited a 'serious personal situatio' as the reason why Simon Gallup couldn't join them onstage.

The Cure, who didn't expand on what kept Gallup from joining them onstage in Japan, are currently working on what will be their 14th and most likely final album.
