AceShowbiz - Rapper Tay-K has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for his role in a 2016 armed robbery in Mansfield that left a 21-year-old man dead. The jury found the 19-year-old, whose real name is Taymor Travon McIntyre, guilty of murder and of a third charge of aggravated robbery on Friday, July 19.
It was initially reported that he would face "between five and 99 years in prison." Tay-K is also sentenced to 30 years in prison on one count of aggravated robbery, and two 13-year prison sentences for the remaining two counts of aggravated robbery related.
However, the four prison terms will be served concurrently and he will be eligible for parole after no less than 27.5 years. He is additionally fined $10,000 for the murder charge and $11,000 combined for the three aggravated robbery charges.
Tay-K was only 16 when he committed the crimes. He and friends arranged a plan to burglarize Ethan Walker, which led to a fatal confrontation between the gunmen and Ethan and the death of Ethan. He pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery by threats, but pleaded not guilty to capital murder and to a separate count of aggravated robbery.
He was not found guilty of the more serious charge of capital murder, which would have carried a mandatory 40-year sentence. Latharian Merritt, the man who was accused of shooting Ethan, was sentenced to life in prison last year.
When he was placed under house arrest until certification hearings were held, Tay-K cut his ankle monitor off and fled to San Antonio, Texas. While on the run, on April 23, 2017, the California-born rapper allegedly robbed and fatally shot a photographer outside of a Chick-fil-A in San Antonio, Texas. On May 25, 2017, he allegedly attacked and robbed 65-year-old Owney "Skip" Pepe in Cravens Park, Arlington.
He was apprehended by United States marshals in Elizabeth, New Jersey after three months on the lam on June 30, 2017, the same day he released his hit song "The Race" online. He still has pending charges for the second-degree capital murder case of Bexar County, and an aggravated robbery case in Tarrant County.
