President Gary Levine reveals that the premium cable network could not pass the chance of doing a TV musical when Benj Pasek, Justin Paul and Marc Platt come along with the 'Girl on Fire' hitmaker.

AceShowbiz - Alicia Keys has partnered with the production trio behind hit movie "La La Land" on a new musical drama for television.

Bosses at U.S. premium cable network Showtime have hired the "Girl on Fire" hitmaker, as well as the Oscar, Tony and Grammy-winning creators of "La La Land", Benj Pasek, Justin Paul and Marc Platt, to collaborate on a fresh musical series for the channel.

"We have always been intrigued by the prospect of doing a Showtime musical series, but only if the songs could add to the depth and complexity of a great character drama," Showtime Entertainment president Gary Levine tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Nobody does that better than Pasek and Paul and Marc Platt... so when they came to us along with a global superstar like Alicia... we were all in."

Alicia will executive produce the untitled project, which has received a significant order of episodes. She is also expected to appear on the show.
