The former 'Today' anchor's estranged wife Annette Roque filed the paperwork on Tuesday, July 9 in Suffolk County, New York as her attorney claims 'the matter has been settled.'

AceShowbiz - Matt Lauer's estranged wife Annette Roque has finally filed for divorce, two years after their split in the wake of his "Today" exit. The Dutch model submitted the paperwork on Tuesday, July 9 in Suffolk County, New York, according to Lucian Chalfen, director of public information for the New York State Unified Court System.

"The case, which is an uncontested matrimonial, was filed on July 9th in State Supreme Court in Suffolk County, New York and is awaiting judicial review of the agreement," Chalfen confirms to PEOPLE. "Upon a judge's signature, it will be sent to the court clerk's office to be entered. The process could take up to a few months."

An uncontested divorce means the two parties have agreed on all financial or divorce-related issues. Annette's attorney John Teitler says, "The matter has been settled."

Matt and Annette's split came in the wake of his firing from NBC's "Today", for which he had worked since 1994 until 2017. His contract was terminated after the network received "a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace," with reason to believe "this may not have been an isolated incident."

Amid this scandal, Matt and Annette were reportedly struggling with their relationship, as Matt reportedly didn't want a divorce. "They were working through their issues at first - they were never hopeful of working it out," said the source. "But it took her a long time to work through it."

"Annette needed time to figure out what she wanted and wrap her head around it all," the source added. "From the beginning, it was never like 'We are done.' It was like, 'What is this?' She needed time to figure things out and she realized -and he did, too - that the best thing was to split up."

The exes continued to live in their Hamptons compound with their three children, Jack, 18, Romy, 15, and Thijs, 12, while they worked to finalize the terms of their divorce. Matt was reportedly staying in the guest house. In August 2018, it was said that the former TV anchor agreed to pay Annette up to $20 million in the settlement.

Matt was previously married to television producer Nancy Alspaugh from 1982 to 1989. They had no children together.
