Instead of focusing the topic of her music on money and sex, which are common topics in hip-hop, the raptress opts to promote body positivity through her music.

AceShowbiz - In this era, where hip-hop basically takes over the music charts all around the world, up-and-coming artists need to have something special so that they can be recognized by the mass, and Lizzo does just that. Instead of focusing the topic of her music on money and sex, which are common topics in the genre, Lizzo opts to promote body positivity through her music.

One of the songs off her second studio album "Big Grrrl Small World", "My Skin", is an example of that. In a 2015 interview with Vice, she said of the song, "You can wake up and change many things about your appearance, but the inevitability of waking up in your skin is what unifies us." The album itself earned critical praise and helped her sign with a major record label Atlantic Records.

She continued to promote self-love after that, releasing her first major-label EP "Coconut Oil" which she described as the "ultimate ode to self-care and to my process" in October 2016. Once again, the album garnered praises from music critics, with Rolling Stone placing it at No. 14 on its list of the "20 Best Pop Albums of 2016".

Lizzo's popularity just kept on growing after that as the lead single off her latest album "Cuz I Love You", "Juice", was met with critical acclaim. Some critics even dubbed it her best single as of now, as Lollie King of Bustle wrote that the song "is sure to give you that much-needed confidence boost when you're feeling low." As for her third album, which made its way out last April, it became her first album to enter the top ten of Billboard 200 chart.

Receiving universal acclaim by critics, the album debut and peaked at No. 6 on the weekly chart. In support of the album, Lizzo hit the road for her "Cuz I Love You Tour" which North American leg ended in New York in May.
