The Tony Award-winning actress says her mom Judy Garland 'would have laughed' if she had watched GaGa's portrayal as Ally in the remake of the 1954 movie.

AceShowbiz - While many have praised Lady GaGa's acting in "A Star Is Born", it's not until now that Liza Minnelli shared her thought on the singer/actress' portrayal of Ally Maine. The 73-year-old actress has revealed how she thinks her mom Judy Garland, who starred in the 1954 original movie as Vicki Lester, would have reacted to GaGa's performance in the remake.

"She would have laughed," Minnelli said in an interview with ET Online ahead of the opening of the supper club Feinstein's at Vitello's in Studio City, California. While her remark may seem like a shade, the "Cabaret" star seemed to be joking as people in the room responded with laughs.

Minnelli quickly added, "And then she would have gotten into it. I can hear her saying, 'OK, let's go!' Great to the end!" Her full comments made it obvious that she didn't mean to shade GaGa, but she only imagined her late mother's honest reaction if she were still alive today.

During the sit-down, Minnelli also talked about an upcoming Judy Garland biopic which stars Renee Zellweger as the silver screen icon. Claiming that she hasn't seen any footage from the movie titled "Judy", she shared her concern about the film.

"I just hope they don't do what they always do. That's all I've got to say," she cryptically said, without explaining what she's worried about. She had nothing but praise for Zellweger though, calling the "Bridget Jones" star "a wonderful" actress.

Minnelli herself has been honored with a bar and lounge area called "Liza" at Feinstein's. The '40s-style lounge was recently transformed by award-winning recording artist Michael Feinstein, who is also Minnelli's best friend of 35 years.

Despite her close friendship with Feinstein, the Tony Award-winning actress claimed she's still surprised by his idea to dedicate an entire area in his club to her. "Uh, please. I couldn't believe it really," she said. "[Like], 'Huh, what are we doing?' "
