AceShowbiz - One of big Hollywood movies that have been shrouded in secrecy, "Bond 25" has finally released the first official details. Shared on Thursday, April 25 during a "Live Reveal", the scoop includes the cast and the plotline, but no title yet.
Confirming the speculation, it's announced that Academy Award winner and "Bohemian Rhapsody" actor Rami Malek is joining the cast as the villain. His role is not unveiled yet, but he teased it in a recorded message as saying, "I will be making sure Mr. Bond doesn't have an easy ride in this."
He went on hinting that he has not joined the cast and the crew for the filming in Jamaica, but he would be joining them soon. The "Mr. Robot" star also appeared on "Good Morning America" where he confirmed the "villainous" nature of his character and promised to give Daniel Craig "a run for his money."
Other new additions to the cast are Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen ("Velvet Buzzsaw"), Ana de Armas ("Blade Runner 2049"), Lashana Lynch ("Captain Marvel") and David Dencik ("Quicksand"). Craig reprises his role as the 007 agent, joining by other returning stars including Ralph Fiennes (as M), Naomie Harris (as Moneypenny), Lea Seydoux (as Madeleine), Ben Whishaw (as Q), Rory Kinnear (as Tanner) and Jeffrey Wright (as Felix from "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace").
In a press release sent to media after the live-stream event, MGM reveals the official plot description, "Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology."
Producer Barbara Broccoli further revealed during the live-stream event that Bond "is actually enjoying himself in Jamaica," which she calls a "spiritual home" for the character, at the start of the film. "We start the story here and we built an extraordinary house for him," she teased, before adding that there’s "quite a ride in store for Mr. Bond."
Director Cary Joji Fukunaga said that prior to the filming in Jamaica, they already filmed in Norway "due to weather," and there are plans to continue production at locations in London (including Pinewood Studios) and the "hilltop town" of Matera, Italy.
"I want to make sure that this run of films...have a really great next chapter and just keep upping the ante so whoever is next has a harder job," the filmmaker shared his vision for the movie. Producer Michael G. Wilson chimed in, "We do update the stories and we do update the plots, but we stay true to the character."
The yet-to-be-titled 25th installment of the Bond film franchise is set to arrive on April 8, 2020 in the United States.
