Featuring 14 previously unreleased recordings, 'Originals' will initially stream exclusively on Tidal in early June before being dropped in the market by Warner Bros. Records later the same month.

AceShowbiz - Prince's estate are putting together an album featuring the star's unreleased demos to mark his birthday in June.

On Wednesday, April 24 it was announced that the estate, in partnership with Tidal and Warner Bros. Records, will be releasing Originals, an album made up of Prince's versions of songs he wrote and gave to other artists to turn into hits, just over three years after his death.

Originals will feature 15 tracks, including "14 previously unreleased recordings that illuminate the vital, behind-the-scenes role Prince played in other artists' careers", such as Prince's original takes on Sheila E.'s "The Glamorous Life", The Bangles' "Manic Monday" and "Nothing Compares 2 U", which became a worldwide hit for Sinead O'Connor in 1990.

The tracks were selected collaboratively by Troy Carter, the entertainment adviser for the estate, and Tidal's Jay-Z, after the two parties reached an agreement over the posthumous album in May last year.

The album will initially stream exclusively on Tidal on 7 June, what would have been the "Purple Rain" hitmaker's 61st birthday, before being released by Warner Bros. Records on 21 June.

The music news comes just days after the estate announced that they would be releasing the icon's "deeply personal" memoirs in October.
