AceShowbiz - Almost two months after his passing, "Riverdale" season 3 aired the final episode of Luke Perry on Wednesday, April 24. Fans have been wanting to know how The CW's series wraps the story for Perry's Fred Andrews following his sudden death in March.
"Riverdale" showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa described his last scene as "a beautiful, true moment between a father and his son." Titled "Chapter 54: Fear the Reaper", the episode saw Archie's boxing opponent Randy dying in the ring. While Veronica tried to prove that it was Elio's drug that killed Randy, Archie couldn't help but feel guilty.
Then Fred came to give him some comfort. "Son, from everything you've said, it's clear that Randy died from those drugs. An autopsy will support that. You're innocent," he said to his son. "But I'm not, dad," Archie insisted, adding that he knew Randy was using the drugs but he didn't stop the fight. "I'm never stepping into that ring ever again."
Aguirre-Sacasa previously took to his Twitter account to announce the date of Perry's final scene. "This week’s #Riverdale is the last episode Luke filmed. As always, Fred’s imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son. Wish these scenes could go on forever...," he wrote alongside a picture of Perry's character on the Archie Comics TV adaptation.
Perry died on March 4 after a massive stroke. "We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry," Aguirre-Sacasa alongside fellow executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater, along with Warner Bros. Television and The CW said in a statement at the time. "A beloved member of the 'Riverdale', Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all."
"A father figure and mentor to the show's young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke's family during this most difficult time," the statement continued.
"Riverdale" season 4 airs on Wednesdays at 8 P.M. on The CW.
