While Kensington Palace would not comment on the affair allegations involving Kate Middleton's best friend Rose Hanbury, the duke's lawyers have sent a letter to a publication to stop running the 'false and highly damaging' story.

AceShowbiz - Prince William's legal team doesn't stay quiet, months after news has been circulating that the British royal cheated on his wife Kate Middleton when she was pregnant with their third child, Prince Louis. It has been reported that the affair was the cause of the feud between the Duchess of Cambridge and her former best friend Rose Hanbury, but In Touch Weekly recently ran a front-page story detailing the cheating allegations in its latest edition.

The American tabloid claimed that after hearing the rumors herself, Kate "immediately confronted" William, who "just laughed it off saying there was nothing to it." While Kensington Palace would not comment on the affair allegations, the prince's lawyers have threatened media with legal action.

According to The Daily Beast, at least one British publication has been served with legal warnings by the royals' lawyers of choice, white shoe law firm Harbottle and Lewis, after publishing details of the rumors. The letter states that "in addition to being false and highly damaging, the publication of false speculation in respect of our clients' private life also constitutes a breach of his privacy pursuant to Article 8 of the European Convention to Human Rights."

Rose Hanbury, whom William was accused of cheating with, is the wife of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, film director and actor David Rocksavage. They were married in 2009 and have three children. The Cholmondeleys are one of the grandest families in Britain, while a Marquess (and his wife, a Marchioness) is the fourth most senior rank in the British nobility (behind King/Queen, Prince/Princess, and Duke/Duchess).

Giles Coren, a prominent staff writer for U.K. paper of record The Times of London, contributed to the spread of the rumors as she responded to a story about Kate and Rose's feud with a tweet which read, "Yes, it is an affair. I haven't read the piece but I know about the affair. Everyone knows about the affair, darling." The tweet was immediately deleted, though.

Canadian writer Nicole Cliffe recently also weighed in on the rumors, suggesting that the rift between William and his brother Prince Harry wasn't caused by Meghan Markle as many reported, but because of the elder sibling's alleged affair.
