Insisting that 'The Cosby Show' star 'maintains his innocence,' his representative issues a clarifying statement to reports which suggest he has settled the suit while serving his time behind bars.

AceShowbiz - A representative for Bill Cosby insists he hasn't settled a defamation suit with seven sex abuse accusers, despite claims by the comedian's insurance agents and the plaintiffs' attorneys.

Actresses Louisa Moritz and Angela Leslie, and five other women claimed the convicted actor and comedian sexually assaulted them and wrongly called them liars when they went public with their charges.

"Each Plaintiff is satisfied with the settlement," legal papers filed in U.S. District Court in Springfield, Massachusetts on Friday, April 05 read, but jailed Cosby, who is currently serving time behind bars after being convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Temple University administrator Andrea Constand in 2004, insists he hasn't agreed to settle.

"Mr. Cosby did not settle any cases with anyone," a representative for the disgraced comedian says. "He is not paying anything to anyone, and he is still pursuing his counterclaims."

"AIG decided to settle these cases without the knowledge, permission and/or consent of Mr. Cosby. Mr. Cosby vehemently denies the allegations brought against him in these defamation suits and he maintains his innocence."

A status report on the case was released earlier on Friday. It read: "Plaintiffs' claims against Defendant William H. Cosby, Jr. have been settled... Contemporaneously with this Report, Plaintiffs are filing a Motion for Entry of Order Dismissing Claims as Settled."

The original lawsuit was filed by the seven women in 2014, but it was shelved during Cosby's criminal trial in Pennsylvania. He was sentenced to serve three to 10 years behind bars after a jury found him guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Constand last year (2018).

Cosby is in prison pending an appeal.
