Through his lawyers, the 'Lollipop' hitmaker claims that he is the rightful owner of the 1999 book, which features lyrics from Hot Boys' tracks, and threatens Moments in Time against the sale.

AceShowbiz - Lil Wayne has threatened auction bosses in California with legal action if they sell a notebook full of his handwritten lyrics.

The book, which dates back to 1999, features lyrics from his former band the Hot Boys' tracks "We On Fire" and "I Feel". It was reportedly found in an old car, which was once owned by the group's label bosses at Cash Money Records.

According to TMZ, the man who found the piece of rap memorabilia stashed the notebook in a box in his garage, but it suffered a little water damage in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina hit Wayne's native Louisiana. He managed to salvage the item, and now it has been handed over to auction officials at Moments in Time, who have priced the lot at a starting bid of $250,000 (£190,000).

Wayne has now stepped in to let the auction house bosses know that he's the rightful owner of the lyrics book - and they cannot sell it.

His attorneys have fired off a warning letter to Moments in Time officials, claiming the broker doesn't have permission to sell or transfer the notebook to anyone.

In a letter, obtained by TMZ, Wayne's lawyers insist their client misplaced the book and he is thrilled it has been found.

But Gary Zimet, the owner of Moments in Time, tells the outlet if the rapper wants the notebook back, he'll have to bid on it just like anyone else.

Wayne insists he will sue if the sale goes ahead.
