Opening up about the death of Winston Elba, the 'Luther' star claims that watching his father's passing in 2013 'grounded the f**k out' of him and made him try to live his life to the fullest.

AceShowbiz - Idris Elba got the words "one life" tattooed on his arm in honour of his late father.

"Luther" star Idris told the Hollywood Reporter that the inspirational inking on his forearm serves as a reminder to live life to the fullest, after the death of Winston Elba in 2013.

"That's it. That's all we've got. I watched my dad die, and he and I had big plans," the 46-year-old actor sadly explained. "I never got to show him the fruits of my labour. We talked about things he could have if I made it, then he got sick."

"It was heartbreaking, but it also grounded the f**k out of me."

The 76-year-old was also Idris' role model for playing Nelson Mandela in the 2013 biopic, "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom", and the actor says he refuses to let life pass him by.

“So when someone tells me, 'You're doing a bit too much,' I'm like, I'm going to die one day, I'm going to take that last breath. You know what I don't want to be thinking when I do? 'I should've done that'," he shared.

The Brit is certainly keeping himself busy; his new Netflix show, "Turn Up Charlie", was released earlier this month, he's finished filming on the "Fast and Furious" spin-off movie "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw" alongside Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Jason Statham, and the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the hit musical "Cats", and he's gearing up for his Coachella DJ debut.

And Idris rejects the idea that he should only be labelled as an actor.

"I just want to encourage people to stay away from those who tell you to 'stay in your lane'," he fired. "You've got one life to live. If you want to try something different, go for it."
