'We wanted you to hear from us that though we're excited about next year, it will be the finale,' Jensen Ackles shares in a video alongside co-stars Jared Padalecki and Mischa Collins.

AceShowbiz - The Winchester brothers' journey on "Supernatural" is coming to an end. After premiering in 2005, the fan-favorite sci-fi series has announced that its 15th season will be its last. Stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins broke the heartbreaking news on Friday, March 22 on social media.

"We have some big news that we wanted y'all to hear from us," Padalecki started, before Ackles added, "We just told the crew that though we're very, very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be our last..." He continued saying, "We wanted you to hear from us that though we're excited about next year, it will be the finale, the big grand finale of an institution."

"We've cried some tears, and we'll cry some more," Padalecki chimmed in. Ackles later jumped in to say they would be saving the emotion for next season. "We love you guys, and this family is not going anywhere, even though the show will come to an end," Misha vowed.

Before concluding the video, Ackles shared some words from show creator Eric Kripke. "In a show about family, it is amazing and it is the pride of his life that it became family, so thank you guys," he said.

Following the big announcement, exec producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb also released a joint statement. "Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible," the statement read. "We'd like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the sendoff they deserve."

For more than 14 years, The CW series has been treating fans to a story of brothers Sam Winchester (Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Ackles) who were raised by her father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to go into the family business, which see them saving people and hunting things.

The show, which nabs the title of the longest-running sci-fi series in the history of American broadcast television, is currently averaging a 0.8 rating among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 2.4 million total viewers with seven days of delayed viewing.

"Supernatural" is the latest The CW series which is set to wrap their stories. It joins "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend", "Jane the Virgin" and "Arrow". "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" will bid goodbye after its current season ends in April, while "Jane the Virgin" will conclude its story with season 5. As for "Arrow", the DC Comic series is set to end after upcoming season 8.
