Emma Thompson and Julianne Moore are reportedly also on Disney's rader to play Baroness, who is described as an antagonist to Cruella in the upcoming live-action movie.

AceShowbiz - Nicole Kidman is close to landing a role in another big movie after starring in DC's "Aquaman". The Academy Award-winning actress is reportedly on the list of actresses being considered for a pivotal role in Disney's "Cruella".

According to That Hashtag Show, the "Big Little Lies" star is wanted for the role of the " 'Baroness,' who is described as an antagonist to Cruella and is pivotal to her rise as the classic Disney villain." However, she's not the only one circling the role as the site reports that Emma Thompson, Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore and Demi Moore are also eyed for the part.

It's unknown how far along the steps which have been taken by the studio's execs to convince Kidman to star in the movie. Based on THS' report, it sounds like the Hawaiian-born beauty's chance to getting the role is slightly above the other contenders.

"Cruella" will put the highlight on "101 Dalmatians" villainess Cruella de Vil, who was portrayed by Glenn Close in the 1996 movie. The upcoming movie will tell the origin story of the fashionable woman who is obsessed by the dalmatian puppies, similar to Disney's another live-action movie "Maleficent".

An alleged synopsis for the movie reveals "Estella (Cruella De Vil) lives on the streets of 1970's London with other hoodlums, where we learn the real origins behind Estella's hatred of Dalmatians."

Emma Stone has been long reported being attached to play the title character. "Mozart in the Jungle" writer and co-creator Alex Timbers was previously tapped to direct, but he departed the project last December due to scheduling conflicts. He has since been replaced by "I, Tonya" helmer Craig Gillespie. "The Favourite" screenwriter Tony McNamara has been tapped to rewrite the script.

Filming is reportedly expected to begin at the end of the year for a 2020 release, but no exact date has been set for the movie just yet. Andrew Gunn, Marc Platt and Kristin Burr are on board as producers.
