When discussing her slow rise to fame and hope for future roles, the 'Empire' actress also opens up about being blocked by Harvey Weinstein for a role in movie 'St. Vincent'.

AceShowbiz - Taraji P. Henson is desperate to play a "long-nosed witch" in a fantasy film.

The 48-year-old actress is famous for playing matriarch Cookie Lyon in hip-hop drama "Empire", and has since starred in films "Hidden Figures", "Ralph Breaks the Internet" and "What Men Want".

In an interview with The Guardian, Taraji discussed her slow rise to fame, and attributed it to Hollywood executives' lack of vision.

"I don't think Hollywood quite knew what to do with me. They didn't grasp my talent," she told the news outlet. "I'm like a musician. Give me the sheet music and I'll play you anything."

The actress, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in 2009, then offered some other worldly examples of roles she would love to play in the future.

"I wanna play a wizard! A warlock! Put make-up on me. Make me a long-nosed witch, some Harry Potter fantasy thing," she enthused. "Take me out of my body. Make me fly. Put me in a muscle suit, a mask, put me in a - I don't know - a fatsuit. I'll play Jabba the Hutt. I'll play anything!"

She also discussed being blocked for a role in movie "St. Vincent" by Harvey Weinstein, a project by "Hidden Figures" director Theodore Melfi. The disgraced film producer hired Naomi Watts for the role instead.

"Yeah," she responded when asked if she thought the decision was racially motivated. "Basically, I don't think he saw my box-office appeal."

"Well, you know, I just sit here and I sip my tea," she said when asked about his downfall. "I never wished anything bad on the man. I was just, like, 'OK, he'll see. That's another person who'll have to eat crow. How would you like yours? Fried? Toasted?' "
