To be the sixth country singer to receive the trophy from the Academy of Country Music, the 'You Make It Easy' hitmaker describes it as 'probably one of the coolest awards I've ever been given.'

AceShowbiz - Jason Aldean will be the latest recipient of the coveted Artist of the Decade trophy at the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards.

The country superstar becomes only the sixth artist to earn the honour behind Marty Robbins, Loretta Lynn, Alabama, Garth Brooks, and George Strait, who last picked up the prize in 2008.

He'll collect it at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas on 7 April, and also perform.

The award recognises artists who dominate country music over the decade.

"This is probably one of the coolest awards I've ever been given," Aldean says in a statement. "My heroes are on this list, something I can’t really even wrap my head around being part of. But, man, I’m proud to be getting it."

"It's for everyone who stuck with us and supported us through the years."

Aldean is the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year.

Reba McEntire will return to host the awards show.
