AceShowbiz - The story in Brooklyn's 99th Precinct will continue for at least another season. NBC has handed out season 7 renewal for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine".

The upcoming season marks the second season of the cop sitcom on NBC as it previously aired on FOX, its original network, before being canceled last year. Prior landing on NBC, series producer Universal Television was in talks with Hulu, but the streaming service ultimately passed.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" debuted its sixth season on NBC on Thursday, January 10 with seven episodes having aired to date. The network initially order 13-episode season 6 before making it to be 18 episodes in September 2018. So far, the show has been garnering 3.6 million total viewers and a 1.2 rating. It is the network's top-rated sitcom, trailing "Superstore" and "Will & Grace" in terms of total viewers (2.8 million).

The cast of the comedy shared their excitement in a brief video. "SEVEN-SEVEN! We're coming back again for another round, squad. #Brooklyn99" the official account of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" captioned it.

"Seven, baby! That's right! Season 7 coming from @nbcbrooklyn99 77! er, I mean 99! Either way, we’re thrilled. #Brooklyn99," cast member Dirk Blocker tweeted.

"It's been one of our great joys as a network to give 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' a second life," said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of Scripted Programming at NBC, in a joint statement. "Cheers to Dan Goor, Mike Schur, Luke Del Tredici and David Miner, and our amazing cast and crew who each week turn New York’s finest into New York's funniest."

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is the latest series to get renewed on NBC. Prior to this, the Peacock network ordered a new season for "The Good Place" (season 4), "Will & Grace" (season 11), "Chicago Fire" (season 8), "Chicago P.D." (season 7), "Chicago Med" (season 5) and "New Amsterdam" (season 2).
