The 'Goodfellas' star praises screenwriter David Chase and director Alan Taylor as he expresses his excitement to be working with the two filmmakers in 'The Many Saints of Newark'.

AceShowbiz - "Goodfellas" star Ray Liotta is returning to the movie mob world to play a pivotal character in "The Sopranos" prequel movie.

The actor has landed a role in "The Many Saints of Newark", which will feature Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, and Michael Gandolfini, the real-life son of original "The Sopranos" tough guy James Gandolfini.

Alan Taylor is directing the movie from a script written by "The Sopranos" creator David Chase and Lawrence Konner.

The prequel is set among the backdrop of the 1960s Newark riots when African-Americans gang leaders and Italian-American Mafia bosses clashed.

Liotta has a personal connection to the drama - he grew up in Newark in the 1960s.

"I am thrilled to be working with David Chase and Alan Taylor on 'The Many Saints of Newark'," he tells Deadline. "David's talent is unmatched and the directing of Alan Taylor makes this even more exciting. I respect them both immensely and look forward to making this special project."
