On 'Stumptown', which is inspired by graphic novels of the same name, Dex Parios solves other people's messes with a blind eye toward her own.

AceShowbiz - Cobie Smulders is heading to the small screen. "The Avengers" has been tapped to headline a pilot of a new comic book series adaptation for ABC titled "Stumptown".

In the planned pilot, which will be hailing from writer Jason Richman, Ruben Fleishcher and ABC Studios, Smulders will take on the role of Dex Parios, a "strong, assertive, and unapologetically sharp-witted Army veteran working as a P.I. in Portland, OR." The series will see Smulders' character dealing with a complicated personal history while only having herself to rely on.

On "Stumptown", which is inspired by the graphic novels, Dex solves other people's messes with a blind eye toward her own. The character is further described as a whip-smart, hard-luck heroine you can't help but get behind. Once a decorated Military Intelligence officer overseas, Dex is now back home in Portland, Oregon, unable to hold down a steady job, spinning her wheels, running up gambling debts, waiting for trouble to catch up with her -- and so it does.

In addition to writing, Richman will serve as executive producer alongside Fleischer and Bernad for The District. They are joined by Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth and Justin Greenwood.

Smulders is known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky on CBS comedy series "How I Met Your Mother", on which she starred alongside Josh Radnor and Neil Patrick Harris among others for its entire nine-season run. The actress most recently appeared on Netflix series "Friends From College", which was canceled on February 18 after running for 2 seasons.

The comedy followed the tragicomic misadventures of a close-knit group of Harvard alumni in their 40s as they navigate their ambitious yet clumsy and romantically intertwined lives in New York City. She played Lisa Turner, a hedge fund lawyer.

As for Smulders' movie credits, Smulders played S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in several Marvel movies including "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Avengers: Infinity War". She also reprised the role on ABC's "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." Smulder is set to play Agent Hill again in upcoming "Avengers: Endgame" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home".
