AceShowbiz - Motown legend Smokey Robinson is defending Jennifer Lopez over the fallout linked to her upcoming Grammy Awards tribute to the label's superstars.
The "Waiting for Tonight" hitmaker has been tapped to honour the legendary R&B label at the prizegiving on Sunday night (February 10), but she is receiving criticism online, with many fans insisting Robinson and other African-American artists should lead the tribute.
However, the "Miracles" lead singer insists J.Lo has enough credibility from "growing up in her Hispanic neighbourhood" in the Bronx, New York.
"I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset," he told Variety outside Clive Davis' pre-Grammys gala on Saturday, February 09. "I think anyone who is upset is stupid."
"Motown was music for everybody. Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?"
Smokey was one of Motown's stand-out artists, alongside the likes of Diana Ross, The Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder.
