Contesting judge's order over his music studio, the 'I Believe I Can Fly' hitmaker reportedly submits request to use the building between 8 P.M. and 7 A.M. for the reason that he's most productive at night.

AceShowbiz - R. Kelly has asked a judge to bill his landlord for violations on his Chicago, Illinois music studio.

The property drew the attention of authorities after it was featured in docu-series "Surviving R. Kelly", which chronicled the decades of sexual misconduct accusations made against the singer. On the Lifetime series, a number of alleged victims claimed the R&B veteran had been using the location to hold girls and young women captive as part of a purported sex cult - accusations Kelly's lawyers have vehemently denied.

Prosecutors are currently investigating the allegations, but in the meantime, Kelly has been hit with legal action from city inspectors at the Chicago Department of Buildings, who issued citations to Kelly for reportedly using the space as a residential property and not obtaining permits to build a sauna, steam room, and bar.

The "I Believe I Can Fly" hitmaker is facing 66 total violations with fines ranging from $500 (£386) to $1,000-(£772)-a-day until they are resolved, but he is now arguing the violations are not his problem and they "fall squarely within the Plaintiff landlord's responsibility to address."

He is also asking for all law enforcement activity to halt until a judge rules on his request, reports The Blast.

Kelly was previously ordered to remove his personal items from the premises and he can currently only use the building between the hours of 9 A.M. and 5 P.M. According to TMZ, he is also asking lawmakers to allow him to use the studio between 8 P.M. and 7 A.M., noting he's most productive at night.

A judge is expected to rule on his requests on Friday, February 8.

It's not Kelly's only headache regarding the space - he is also facing eviction after falling behind in his rent payments. The 52 year old reportedly owes around $174,000 (£134,300) to his landlords.
