At the opening of the new Memphis facility, the Aerosmith frontman reveals he was inspired to set up his Janie's Fund organization by his band's hit song, 'Janie's Got a Gun'.

AceShowbiz - Aerosmith star Steven Tyler launched his Janie's House safe haven for abused women in Memphis, Tennessee on Tuesday, February 05.

The rocker donated $500,000 (£386,500) to the cause and helped with the renovation of the second facility - a sister to the Janie's House, which opened in Atlanta, Georgia last year (18).

The new Tennesse campus will house 14 women and their families, annually.

The two shelters were funded by Tyler's Janie's Fund organisation, which he created to raise cash for women in need.

At the launch of the latest Janie's House, Tyler revealed his band's hit "Janie's Got a Gun" inspired him to set up his foundation.

The track chronicles the story of a woman who gets revenge on her abusive father.

To date, Janie's Fund has raised almost $5 million (£3.8 million) and Tyler and his band are hoping to raise more money at the second annual Janie's Fund Grammy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday, February 10, in Los Angeles.

The event will be hosted by Jane Lynch and include a performance from Aerosmith.
