Also in final negotiation to star opposite the 'Braveheart' actor in the film adaptation of Shannon Burke novel is 'Ready Player One' lead Tye Sheridan.

AceShowbiz - Mel Gibson is nearing a deal to star in the film adaptation of Shannon Burke novel "Black Flies".

The "Braveheart" actor and "Ready Player One"'s Tye Sheridan are in final negotiations to take on the project, based on the 2008 book about a young paramedic who has to learn quickly on the job as he gets to grips with the harsh realities of life in Harlem, New York in the mid-1990s.

If he signs on, Gibson will portray Sheridan's more experienced partner.

The movie will be directed by French filmmaker Jean-Stephane Sauvaire, who won acclaim for 2017 boxing crime drama "A Prayer Before Dawn", from a script by newcomer Ryan King.

The screenplay was featured on the 2018 Black List, which notes the best scripts yet to get picked up for development.

Production on "Black Flies" is set to begin later this year.
