AceShowbiz - There are a lot of messages behind 21 Savage's music video for "A Lot" featuring J. Cole. Directed by Aisultan Seitovl, the visuals implies that while a family gathering can be merry and joyous occasions, there are always tragedies behind the celebration.
It kicks off with Savage's family gathering in the garden of a huge mansion for a family photo. All of them are smiling brightly as if they have no problem in their life. But that perception soon changes when they go to the dining room and enjoy their meal, as the scenes change to show what each members of the family has to deal outside the huge mansion.
One family member is nearly shot in the head, while another is in jail. There's also a female family member who suffers from domestic abuse by her husband, as one dad is seen grieving his son's death. One other member, meanwhile, is getting beaten up by someone.
The narrative is rather ambiguous as it doesn't show whether the dark scenes happen in the past or in the future. But judging by the latter part of the clip, where Savage is seen alone in the dining room without his family, it's safe to assume that they never gather for a lavish bash in the first place.
"A Lot" serves as the lead single off Savage's second studio album "I Am > I Was" which was released on December 21, 2018. Sampling "I Love You" by East of Underground, the song peaked at No. 33 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and at No. 12 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
"I Am > I Was" itself spent two weeks atop the Billboard 200, marking his first No. 1 album. In addition to that, the effort received universal acclaim from music critics.
