AceShowbiz - It's official! EXO's Kai and BLACKPINK's Jennie are single again, just a month after they went public with their relationship. SM Entertainment, which represents Kai and his group, confirms the two have broken up, simply stating, "It is true that Kai and Jennie have recently parted ways." The agency doesn't give a reason behind their split, while YG Entertainment which represents BLACKPINK has not released a statement.
Meanwhile, SBS funE which first broke the split news claimed that the two idols agreed to maintain their original senior-junior relationship. The report also stated that they decided to focus on their work and chose this decision for the sake of their respective groups and fans. "Kai and Jennie will do their best in their respective fields. They've agreed to support each other," the report said.
Kai and Jennie's relationship was first revealed on January 1 by South Korean gossip outlet Dispatch. They reportedly had been seeing each other for several months as they were spotted on a date in November. The "Love Shot" hitmaker was pictured picking the "SOLO" singer at her dorm. They were later seen holding hands at a park.
They also appeared to spend some time together in Paris in October during which they attended different events for Fashion Week. They both posted matching photos taken in Eiffel Tower on the same day, October 3.
Jennie showed her meals for dinner and posed with the background of the famous landmark. "Had the most romantic dinner admiring the eiffel tower #happyjen," she captioned the snaps. Kai's photo was taken closer to the Eiffel Tower and he left the picture captionless.
Fellow celebrity Hong Suk Chun recently criticized the media which exposed Kai and Jennie's relationship at the beginning of the new year. "Is the public's right to know that important? They are young idols. They can enjoy beautiful dates but does the public really have to know that at the beginning of the year?" he said on Channel A's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine".
Jennie has been busy on tour with her BLACKPINK groupmates. They kicked off the second leg of their world tour on January 11 in Thailand and will next visit countries such as Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, with additional stops to be announced later.
