The 'A Star Is Born' actor and director issues a statement after the musical flick earns several nominations, including a Best Actor nod for him, at the annual event.

AceShowbiz - Bradley Cooper is thankful for the 2019 Oscar nominations for "A Star Is Born" that were announced on Tuesday, January 22. The 44-year-old, who directed, co-wrote and starred in the movie, received two nominations for Best Lead Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.

In a statement to E! News, the "American Sniper" star shared his reaction to being recognized by The Academy. "Everyone who worked on this film truly risked putting themselves out there - in the hope that in doing so people will connect and feel something deep and personal - the way films have made me feel since I was a kid," he said.

He continued, "When I got this opportunity I knew I had to risk it all because I may never get another chance - so to be here today in a place where people who have seen the film are talking about how it makes them feel, something deep - that simple human thing - that we need each other - and the Academy to recognize that this morning - I just am so grateful."

The movie is also nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress (Lady GaGa), Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliott), Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing. Film producer Lynette Howell Taylor noted to Deadline.com that "A Star Is Born" was Cooper's "movie, his vision and his passion." She further praised the director for his contribution to the movie. She said, "We are all here because of him. The reality is: he's all over this."

She continued, "It's an incredible achievement for him. The truth is that he himself is nominated three times, and he is represented in all eight nominations. Three actors including him got a nomination. I think it would be a miss not too look at it that way. I hope that he doesn't feel it was a slight. I hope he recognizes how many lives and careers he's changed because of this movie. It's an unbelievable achievement."

The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 24, at Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California and air live on ABC. For the first time in three decades, the Oscar ceremony this year will be held without a host following Kevin Hart's departure.
