The '10 Cloverfield Lane' director has been brought in to tackle the video game adaptation weeks after the 'Night at the Museum' filmmaker left the project for 'Free Guy'.

AceShowbiz - "10 Cloverfield Lane" director Dan Trachtenberg has stepped in to replace Shawn Levy as director of the film adaptation of video game "Uncharted".

The "Stranger Things" producer and director signed on to the project in October 2016 ahead of a scheduled 2017 shoot with "The Avengers" star Tom Holland, but in December (18) it was announced that he was departing the film to work on "Free Guy", a comedy starring Ryan Reynolds.

Variety has now revealed that Trachtenberg has been lined up as his replacement.

Trachtenberg confirmed the news by retweeting an article and saying, "Thank ya!" to a Twitter user who congratulated him on his new job.

Another user shared footage of him talking about the "Uncharted" video game on a talk show in 2007 and saying, "I wish I could make this movie." In the caption, the user wrote, "December 2007: @DannyTRS on Uncharted - 'I wish I could make this movie.' January 2019: Is making the movie."

The director shared the message and added, "Small beginnings..."

The 37-year-old made his film directorial debut with "10 Cloverfield Lane" in 2016, the same year he directed "Black Mirror" episode "Playtest". He is the latest name to be in the director's chair for the long-gestating project, which has been in development for at least ten years, with the likes of Seth Gordon and David O. Russell in the frame before Levy, and Mark Wahlberg attached to star before Holland.

The British actor, who is gearing up to reprise his role of Spider-Man in "Avengers: Endgame" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" this year, is still attached to play young treasure hunter Nathan Drake, a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, in a story which will serve as a prequel to the plot of the Naughty Dog game.

The most recent draft of the script was penned by Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker and Sony Pictures bosses reportedly hope it will go into production by the end of the year.
