Said to be inspired by current events and recent national tragedies, the promo for the band's political song captures scenes of migrant families trying to make their way to become American citizens.

AceShowbiz - The Killers have teamed up with filmmaker Spike Lee to shoot a powerful new video to accompany their new freedom anthem.

The gospel-tinged "Land Of The Free" was released on Monday, January 14 and comes with a promo featuring footage of a migrant caravan weaving its way through South America to the U.S. and images of the displaced desperate to become American citizens.

"The Killers invited Spike Lee to make the video for the song, a heartfelt lament inspired by current events and recent national tragedies," a press release reads. "The band gave Spike Lee full creative rein, and he filmed the video over a few weeks at the tail end of 2018, traveling to the U.S./Mexico border to capture scenes of migrant families as they made their way towards 'the land of the free'."

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers' lyrics include the lines: "When I go out in my car I don't think twice/But if you're the wrong colour skin/You grow up looking over both your shoulders/In the land of the free", and, "Down at the border, they're gonna put up a wall/With concrete and rebar steel beams/High enough to keep all those filthy hands off of our hopes and our dreams/People who just want the same thing we do."

He also takes a swipe at U.S. prison reform in the song, lamenting: "And we got more people locked up than the rest of the world/Right here in red, white and blue/Incarceration's become big business/And it's harvest time out on the avenue."
