Critics' Choice Awards 2019: 'Roma', Lady GaGa and Glenn Close Among Movie Winners

Alfonso Cuaron's monochromatic drama dominates the winner list with four awards, while GaGa and Close are tied for the Best Actress nod.

AceShowbiz - "Roma" ruled the 24th annual Critics' Choice Awards. The Spanish language film topped other winners in the movie field with four prizes, bagging the coveted Best Picture award in addition to being named Best Foreign Language Film. Alfonso Cuaron also nabbed two for Best Director and Best Cinematography.

Trailing behind "Roma" with three honors each were "Vice (2018)" and "Black Panther", which were both nominated for Best Picture along with the likes of "BlacKkKlansman", "The Favourite", "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "A Star Is Born" among others.

"Vice" star Christian Bale was named Best Actor and Best Actor in a Comedy, while the movie's third win was in hair and makeup category. As for "Black Panther", the Marvel superhero movie was honored with Best Production Design for Hannah Beachler and Jay Hart, Best Costume Design for Ruth Carter, as well as Best Visual Effects.

There were two Best Actress winners as Glenn Close ("The Wife") and Lady GaGa ("A Star Is Born") were tied for the gong. GaGa, who co-wrote the musical drama's song "Shallow", also received a credit for the movie's Best Song win.

Other movie with multiple wins included "If Beale Street Could Talk", "The Favourite" and "First Man", which bagged two each. " If Beale Street Could Talk" helped its star Regina King win Best Supporting Actress, while its script by Barry Jenkins was named Best Adapted Screenplay. "The Favourite" won Best Actress in a Comedy for Olivia Colman and Best Acting Ensemble. "First Man" took home Best Original Screenplay for Paul Schrader and Best Score for Justin Hurwitz.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was named Best Animated Movie, "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" was the Best Action Movie, "Crazy Rich Asians" was the Best Comedy, while the Best Sci-Fi or Horror Movie gong went to "A Quiet Place".

The 2019 Critics' Choice Awards also handed out the prizes for winners in TV categories. The event, which was held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on Sunday night, January 13, was hosted by Taye Diggs.
