Words are the movie, which has Matt Reeves on board to direct, will start shooting in November though it has not been announced if Ben Affleck will return as the Caped Crusader or not.

AceShowbiz - A new Batman movie is happening after all. The project, which has been long in limbo following rumors of Ben Affleck's departure as the Gotham hero, is reportedly eying a late fall start date. In a piece released by The Hollywood Reporter, the site's writer Borys Kit reveals that Matt Reeves' "The Batman" may start shooting in November.

"The script is basically in, although Reeves will continue tweaking it and working on it," Reeves says in response to his colleague Aaron Couch's question about when the studio will announce Affleck's replacement should he really exit the franchise. "And I'm hearing the studio wants to start shooting in November. So let's say between now and then?"

In August last year, Reeves said that the movie aimed for a 2019 spring or early summer start date. "What we've talked about is hopefully in the spring or early summer, something like that," the director said at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour.

Refusing to comment on Affleck's future in the DC Universe, Reeves said, "There are ways in which all of this connects to DC, to the DC universe as well. We're one piece of many pieces so I don't want to comment on that except to say that I'm focused very specifically on this aspect of the DC world."

He went on gushing about his take on the DC Comics character, saying it would be a "defining" and "very personal" story about the Dark Knight, but not based on Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One". He explained, "We're not doing any particular [comic]. 'Year One' is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing 'Year One'."

He added, "Obviously we're not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We're doing a story that is definitively Batman though and trying to tell a story that's emotional and yet is really about him being the world's greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman."

While Affleck has been rumored to retire as the Caped Crusader after his last appearance in 2017's "Justice League", several names have been thrown as a possible replacement. Among the potential contenders are Kit Harington, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jack Huston.
