The 'Counterpart' star will be playing an ex-con named Clyde Prickett.

AceShowbiz - "Veronica Mars" revival apparently hasn't done adding actors to its cast. It's reported that Hulu's upcoming limited series gets Oscar winner J.K. Simmons onboard.

The "Whiplash" actor has landed a role on the revival, which is hailing from original series creator Rob Thomas, in a recurring capacity. Simmons is set to portray a character named Clyde Prickett.

Prickett is depicted as an ex-con who served 10 years for racketeering, and was smart enough to be the first guy in Chino to offer protection to Neptune's richest real estate developer, Big Dick Casablancas (David Starzyk), on Big Dick's first day in prison. Now a free man, Clyde works as Big Dick's fixer. He's the smarter and more dangerous of the pair, and he has a network of fellow ex-cons he can count on to keep his own hands clean.

The eight-episode series will see Kristen Bell reprising her role as the titular character. The new season is set to follow Veronica investigating a serial killer plaguing the town during Spring Break. In the new season, "spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town's lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son's killer, Veronica is drawn into a mystery that pits the enclave's wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast's answer to Daytona Beach."

Also returning for the revival are Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Daran Norris, Enrico Colantoni, Ryan Hansen, Francis Capra and Max Greenfield. They will be joined by newcomers Dawnn Lewis as new police chief Marcia Langdon, Patton Oswalt as best pizza delivery guy in Neptune Penn Epner, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Neptune nightclub operator Nicole, Clifton Collins Jr. as mid-level cartel hitman Alonzo Lozano, and Izabela Vidovic as the troubled Matty Ross.

In addition to writing the first episode, Thomas is set to produce the reboot. It is set to premiere sometime in 2019 on Hulu.
