Taking the stage to the surprise of the crowd, the Duchess of Sussex recalls the time she travelled to military bases all over the world to get a glimpse of the lives of service men and women.

AceShowbiz - Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, gave a surprise speech at the close of the Invictus Game.

Her husband, Prince Harry, was scheduled to speak at the games' closing ceremony in Sydney, Australia, and the former "Suits" star, 37, shocked the crowd as she also took to the stage to deliver an emotional speech.

Meghan thanked those who had participated in the event, which was founded four years ago by Harry.

The 34-year-old, who served in the Army for 10 years, started the Invictus Games with the aim of helping wounded service personnel and veterans with their physical and psychological rehabilitation.

She called the games "an international platform of some of the best athletics and sportsmanship you could ever witness", before sharing her personal connection to the event.

"I'm not sure if many of you know this, but a few years ago, before I had met my husband, I had the incredible honour of visiting troops deployed all over the world, from the U.K. to Italy and Afghanistan, and several other countries," Meghan recalled.

"In traveling to these military bases, I was given a very special glimpse into the lives of those who serve our countries. I was able to see the unshakable bonds between service men and women on the ground together, but at the same time to feel the palpable longing for family and friends while deployed," she shared.

The duchess, who wore an olive green custom Antonio Berardi tuxedo dress with peach Casablanca pumps by Aquazzura at the event, has now travelled to New Zealand with husband Harry for the final leg of their royal tour.
