'Spider-Man' Spin-Off 'Morbius' Villain Is Familiar Character With a Twist
Movie

Rumor has it that the main villain is not Emil Nikos as previously reported, but another of Michael Morbius' friends.

AceShowbiz - While Sony has been enjoying the success of "Venom (2018)", another Spider-Man spin-off is currently still in development. "Morbius", which has Jared Leto on board as the title character, is up next on the studio's list and now the movie's main villain has allegedly been revealed.

The Hashtag Show, which previously reported that Morbius' friend Emil Nikos would villainize the movie, has come up with an updated report about the antagonist. According to the site, instead of Nikos, the said friend who would turn on the biochemist is Loxias Crown.

Loxias Crown does not appear in the comics, but it is said that the character will be drawn upon another comic supervillain Crown, who later went by the name Hunger. Crown is a mutant who comes into conflict with Spider-Man and Morbius.

The movie, however, will reportedly feature a heavily-alternated origin of the character. Instead of a mutant, Loxias Crown would be depicted as Morbius' good friend who suffers from the same rare blood disease as the title character. Both of them then taken the same serum that Morbius developed and eventually transforms them into vampire-like creatures. The story will center on Morbius trying to stop Loxias from killing humans while at the same time fighting his own blood lust.

"Safe House" helmer Daniel Espinosa is attached to the project as director, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama working on the script. "Venom" producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are also producing "Morbius".

Tolmach recently addressed a speculation that "Morbius" would be connected to "Venom" in some way, "I don't think there's a rule written somewhere in stone that all of them have to be one thing." He added, "I think we've all talked about, 'Well, if one of these presents itself in a way...' Look, we have all seen, as you've said, the R-rated versions of these movies now working. So, that's out there. You can succeed to a staggering degree."

No release date is set just yet for the Morbius movie.
