The British songstress has a promising future ahead of her as her songs continue to take over airwaves across the globe.

AceShowbiz - There aren't many British songstresses who can make it big in the music industry these days, but Ella Mai is certainly not one of them. In fact, the young singer has a promising future ahead of her as her debut commercial song "Boo'd Up" continues to take over airwaves across the globe.

Released in February 2017, the song became her breakout hit after she serves as the opening act for Kehlani's tour. Thanks to the popularity of the song, she became the first British artist to hit No. 1 on Billboard's R&B chart in 26 years. It has spent a total of sixteen week atop the chart, becoming the longest running No. 1 song by a female artist in the history of the chart. The record was previously held by Mary J. Blige, whose song "Be Without You" stayed atop the chart for 15 weeks.

"Boo'd Up" additionally peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Mai became the first artist to take her debut Hot 100 entry to the top 10 since Lil Pump's "Gucci Gang" peaked at No. 3 on the chart. She also became the first woman to take the honor since Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" spent three weeks atop the chart.

The follow up to her breakthrough hit was also well received by fans. "Trip", which was unveiled on August 3, attracted ample attention on radio while also posted solid sales and streaming numbers. The single has since peaked at No. 18 on Billboard's Hot 100 and is expected to continue rising.

"Trip" and "Boo'd Up" will appear on Mai's upcoming self-titled album, which is scheduled for an October 12 release. Prior to releasing the album, she will take the stage at the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday, October 9 to perform the latter single.
