AceShowbiz - Serena Williams makes use of her body and voice for good purpose. The 23-time Grand Slam tennis champion strips down to her birthday suit in a video for I Touch Myself Project, which aims at raising awareness about breast cancer.
Going topless, she covers her breasts with her own hands. The mother of one also shows off her vocal chops as she sings a stripped-down version of The Divinyl's 1990 pop song "I Touch Myself".
The PSA, released in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is October, promotes self-checks as demonstrated by Serena's pose of touching herself in the clip. The project, which launched in 2014, is inspired by Divinyl's frontwoman Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away in 2013 following her battle against breast cancer.
"Chrissy was passionate about spreading awareness of the importance of early detection and wanted the global hit song 'I Touch Myself' to be adapted as an anthem for breast health around the world," reads a statement on the campaign's website.
Sharing the video on her Instagram page, Serena wrote in the caption, "This Breast Cancer Awareness Month I've recorded a version of The Divinyls global hit 'I Touch Myself' to remind women to self-check regularly."
She added of her experience singing and going naked for the video, "Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it's an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key - it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that."
