The 'Girls' alum joins the star-studded cast of the movie, which already has Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie on board.

AceShowbiz - Lena Dunham has been added to the cast of Quentin Tarantino's star-studded new movie, along with family members of the moviemaker's past leading men and women.

"Kill Bill" star Uma Thurman's daughter, Maya Hawke, and "Inglourious Basterds" actor Eli Roth's estranged wife, Lorenza Izzo, have joined Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, and Luke Perry, among others, in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".

Vanessa Hudgens' actor boyfriend Austin Butler is also a new addition to the film, which is set in the late 1960s and revolves around a washed-up western star, played by DiCaprio, who lives next door to tragic actress Sharon Tate, who was slaughtered by members of Charles Manson's cult The Family.

Pitt plays the longtime stunt double of DiCaprio's Rick Dalton.

The project marks the first major feature for Dunham, who previously appeared as the star of cable TV series "Girls". She also had supporting roles in "Happy Christmas" and "This Is 40".

Hawke, whose father is actor Ethan Hawke, made her mark as one of the stars of the BBC's three-part adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic "Little Women". She is also set to star in the upcoming third season of Netflix hit "Stranger Things".

The film also features Timothy Olyphant, Emile Hirsch, Burt Reynolds, Al Pacino, and Tarantino regulars Tim Roth and Michael Madsen.

Dakota Fanning is part of the ensemble too - she has signed on to portray Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme, the Manson Family devotee who tried to assassinate U.S. President Gerald Ford in 1975 - and Brit Damian Lewis has been cast as movie icon Steve McQueen.

Tarantino has described the film as "a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood".

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is slated for release in August, 2019.
