The rapper reportedly filed paperwork seeking approval to head to New York to attend the event, but his request was rejected.

AceShowbiz - Embattled rapper Juelz Santana has been forced to watch the MTV Video Music Awards from home after he was denied permission to travel to New York for the ceremony.

The There It Go (The Whistle Song) star, real name LaRon James, is currently out on bail, awaiting sentencing in an airport gun case, but the terms of his release require him to obtain permission before travelling outside of his native New Jersey.

He reportedly filed paperwork seeking approval to head to New York to attend Monday night's (August 20) MTV prizegiving at Radio City Music Hall, but his request was rejected, according to The Blast.

That means Santana will not be mingling with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, and Cardi B at the event.

Santana, who also has to wear an ankle monitor, had previously been granted permission to shoot footage for his reality show Love & Hip-Hop: New York in the Big Apple, and perform a few gigs outside of New Jersey.

The rapper is facing up to 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft in a New Jersey court on Thursday, August 16.

The charges relate to an incident at Newark Liberty International Airport in March, when security officials found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and non-prescribed oxycodone pills in a carry-on bag containing Santana's identification.

He will be sentenced on 12 December.
