'I'm proud to become an investor in Billie, an inclusive female body brand that's raising awareness and tackling this inequity head on,' the tennis star says.

AceShowbiz - Tennis superstar Serena Williams has become an investor in low-cost female shaving brand Billie.

Company chiefs launched the firm in November in a bid to offer women a more budget-friendly alternative to the razors, shaving creams, and other products already on the male-dominated market, and provide a direct-to-consumer service to cut down on costs.

Brand bosses are also dedicated to helping fight inequality as a wider issue, by donating one per cent of all revenue to global women's causes, a business model which caught the eye - and financial backing - of Serena.

"I'm a lifelong proponent of equality for women - on and off the court," the 35-year-old athlete shares in a press release. "Women not only make less than men but are also charged more for women's products, the so-called 'Pink Tax.'"

"I'm proud to become an investor in Billie, an inclusive female body brand that's raising awareness and tackling this inequity head on," Serena continues. "The shaving industry is dominated by male brands which have traditionally overcharged and underserved women."

The sportswoman isn't the only celebrity to support Billie - actresses Drew Barrymore and Lena Dunham have also previously endorsed the company online.
